What is an Author?
Your Group's stories and events are written and published by authors. Authors are Group members who have been granted rights to post content in one or more channels.
Granting Authoring rights
Each channel has its own authors. Group administrators determine who can author for a channel in one of two ways:
Selecting individual authors
Administrators select one or more individual Group members to be authors in the channel configuration. They can assign authors when creating a new channel, or at any time after. When you're assigned authorship rights to a channel this way, you'll receive an email notification letting you know.
Configure Open Authoring
If an administrator enables Open Authoring on a channel, then all Group members post stories and events to that channel. This is handy if you want to have one or more "water cooler" channels for open discourse across the whole group.
How do I know if I'm an author?
The most obvious way to see that you have authoring rights is by looking for the new post launcher at the top of your news feed. If you do have authoring rights, you'll see this on the Group home page, as well as on the channel pages on which you have authoring rights. It looks like this:
Another way you'll be notified about being an author is when an administrator makes you an author on a channel. When that happens, you will receive an email letting you know. On channels with Open Authoring, you won't receive an email, but you will see the new post launcher.
