What is an Author?
In GroupNews, an Author is any group member who has permission to create and publish stories or events in one or more channels. Authors keep everyone informed by posting the updates that appear in your organization’s news feed.
How Authoring Rights Are Granted
Each channel has its own authors. Group administrators determine who can author for a channel in one of two ways:
Assign Specific Authors
- The admin selects individual members when creating or editing a channel.
- You’ll receive an email notification the moment you’re added as an Author.
Enable Open Authoring
With Open Authoring turned on, every group member can post in that channel—perfect for “water-cooler” or company-wide discussion spaces
How to Tell If You’re an Author
Look for the New Post launcher at the top of your news feed:

- It appears on your Group home page and on any channel where you have authoring rights
- If you don’t see the launcher, you don’t have permission to post in that location (yet!)
When in doubt, check your email for an authoring-rights notification or contact your Group administrator.
Open Authoring
If an administrator designates you as an Author for a specific channel, you’ll get an email confirmation. For channels with Open Authoring, no email is sent—just look for the New Post launcher to confirm you have posting access.
