What is a Channel?
GroupNews organizes stories and events into dedicated spaces called Channels. Channels create a lend a sense of structure to your group's content, and you can create channels for any topic, department, team, or other purpose.
Channel Visibility
In GroupNews, channels can have one of three visibilities: group, private, or world.
- Group channels promote transparency. Any member of your group can read content that is posted in a channel that has group visibility, giving everyone access to the same information. Members can also join in any active discussions in that channel.
- Private channels are for content that should not be available to all group members. When an administrator sets up a private channel, they can invite individual members to that channel as needed. Content posted in that channel will only be accessible to the Group members who can see the channel.
- World channels are for public consumption. As the name suggests, content published in world visible channels is viewable by anyone worldwide. While anyone, anywhere can view that content, only active Group members can participate in discussions on world viewable content. World visible channels are not available with a GroupNews Lite plan.
Administrator Note
When you create a channel, it will default to being Group visible. You can decide what you want it to be during the channel setup process, or at any time after it is set up in the channel settings.
