Set Approved Email Domains to allow new Members to Join
In addition to inviting people to your group, you can allow people to join your group automatically when they sign up for GroupNews with an email address from an approved email domain. You can specify up to 10 approved domains for a Group.
Set Approved Domains
Only Group administrators and owners can set approved domains. Regular Group members are restricted from doing so.
- When signed in to GroupNews, click your Group’s name in the top left corner.
- Select Group Settings from the menu.
- Scroll down to the Approved Email Domains section.
- Add one or more domains, separating each with a comma or put each one on a new line. You don’t need to include
www
orhttps://
with each domain, simply the part of the email address after the@
symbol (e.g.example.com
). - Click Save.
Now, when someone creates a new GroupNews account using an email address from a domain you’ve approved, they will get an automatic invitation to join your Group. They will be presented with the invitation each time they sign in until they accept or decline it.
Note: It’s a good idea to limit the domains you specify here to domains that your organization controls. This way, you can manage the number members joining your group. To illustrate, if you were to specify gmail.com, for instance, that would allow anyone with a Gmail account to join your group without being specifically invited to do so.
Remove Approved Domains
If you want to remove one or more approved domains you previously set, here are the steps to do so:
- When signed in to GroupNews, click you Group’s name in the top left corner.
- Select Group Settings from the menu.
- Scroll down to the Approved Email Domains section.
- Find the approved domain(s) in the list you want to remove, and delete them.
- Click Save.
Note: If you delete an approved domain which allowed a new GroupNews user to join your Group who hasn’t yet accepted their automatic invitation, the invitation doesn’t get rescinded. They will still be able accept the invite and join the group.
